BELONG    BELIEVE    ACHIEVE

Twenty-two children were invited to stay at The Nightingale Centre in Great Hucklow, Derbyshire from 28th March-1st April 2022.

Every day we visited interesting places nearby and had lots of fun and new experiences!

The Nightingale Centre

Belong    Believe    Achieve

We stayed at the Nightingale Centre in Hucklow. The dorms are ensuite and very comfortable; the meals are delicious too!

We have a games room, where we do activities and a fantastic space outside to play!

The Heights of Abraham

Today we got the coach from school to Matlock Bath. We got the cable car up to the Heights of Abraham and then had a guided tour around the caves. We learnt all about the lead mining that took place in the 17th century in the caves. Then we enjoyed the playground before coming back down again in the cable car.

Chatsworth House

Today we visited Chatsworth House, owned by the Duke of Devonshire.

First we went to the farm and saw all the animals on the farm. We were lucky enough to witness a lamb being born and then were able to have a cuddle with the guinea pigs and chicks!

After that we had great fun in the adventure playground.

Then we explored the wonderful garden and got lost in the maze!

Finally, we had a tour around this beautiful stately home.

Outdoor and Adventurous Activities

Today we stayed at the Nightingale Centre and took part in some outdoor and adventurous activities; we didn’t let the sleet and snow stop us!

Firstly we worked in pairs orienteering. We had to use a map to find the flags around the garden. This helped develop our teamwork and map reading skills.

We then played some team building games using hoops to develop our communication and collaborative skills.

We finished the afternoon off by having obstacle races and playing party games, which was lots of fun!

Matlock Farm Park

We had a fantastic day at Matlock Farm Park, even in the snow!

We had a guided tour, which included feeding meerkats, sheep, goats, llamas, pigs, donkeys, alpacas. We saw horses, wallabies, chicks, emus, a tortoise and a skunk. We enjoyed being able to pet lambs, rabbits and guinea pigs.

We also had a pony ride.

We had lots of fun playing in the playground and bouncing on the air cushions!

Poole's Cavern

We visited Poole’s Cavern. First we looked round the museum and saw some of the things discovered inside the cavern, then we had a guided tour inside.

We saw some huge stalactites and stalagmites and learnt how old it was.
