Equality Statement & Objectives

Our Equality Statement

At Wavertree Church of England Primary School, our Christian vision of Belong, Believe, Achieve anchors everything we do. We believe that every child and adult in our school community is uniquely created, valued, and loved.

We are committed to fostering an equitable, diverse, and inclusive environment where systemic barriers are actively removed so that every pupil—regardless of background, ethnicity, heritage, faith, disability, or special educational need—feels a profound sense of belonging. Through a culture rooted in social justice, fairness, and high expectations, we empower all children to flourish academically, socially, and spiritually, unlocking their full potential in a safe and nurturing school family.

Our Equality Objectives

To turn our commitment into meaningful, measurable action, we have established the following core objectives:

1. Belonging & Inclusive Learning
  • Objective: Ensure that curriculum design, classroom environments, and teaching practices provide equitable access for all pupils, particularly those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and disadvantaged backgrounds.

  • Key Action: Embed adaptive teaching strategies and targeted support through continuous staff coaching, ensuring every child can fully engage in the curriculum alongside their peers.

2. Curriculum Diversity & Representation
  • Objective: Continuously review and enrich the curriculum so that it reflects, celebrates, and honours the diverse heritage, cultures, and lived experiences of our local Liverpool community and the wider world.

  • Key Action: Audit reading materials, humanities topics, and collective worship resources to ensure positive, non-stereotypical representation that inspires all pupils to see themselves as capable achievers and global citizens.

3. Justice & Proactive Equity
  • Objective: Actively identify and dismantle relational and structural barriers to learning, attendance, and wellbeing across the school community.

  • Key Action: Strengthen family and community partnerships through proactive engagement, ensuring tailored pastoral, attendance, and wellbeing support reaches families who need it most.

4. Continuous Professional Development & Culture
  • Objective: Build a staff culture of reflective practice and shared accountability regarding equality, equity, and trauma-informed inclusion.

  • Key Action: Deliver targeted staff development on unconscious bias, inclusive pedagogy, and restorative practice, integrating EDJI principles into performance coaching and staff induction.
