Religious Education

“In a society that is increasingly and richly culturally and religiously diverse, at the same time as becoming increasingly fractured, schools cannot be said to be best serving their pupils’ needs if they are not ensuring that their religious education provision is high-quality and available for all pupils.” (SIAMS Annual Report 2025-2026)

As a Church of England School, RE is a core subject. It is a subject that plays a vital role for all in our increasingly diverse community. Our RE curriculum has been designed to reflect the rich diversity of the community that we serve.

At our school, we believe that Religious Education has a powerful and lasting effect on a child's heart and mind, combining academic rigour with the development of character, empathy, and spiritual growth.

To bring this vision to life, we follow Questful RE—a rich, balanced, and enquiry-based curriculum developed by the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Education.

Our Approach to RE

  • An Exploration of Faith and World-views: Questful RE provides an engaging exploration of Christianity, world faiths, and diverse world-views, enabling pupils to discover the meaningful ways in which faith influences people's lives.

  • The Power of Big Questions: A core feature of the syllabus is its use of thought-provoking, deep-level questions. As children explore these questions, they discover more about themselves, their relationships with others, the world around them, and God.

  • Balanced and Rigorous Learning: The curriculum ensures a deep, structured understanding of Christian concepts and traditions, alongside a respectful, comprehensive study of other major world religions and traditions.

Through lively discussion, reflection, and open enquiry, our RE curriculum helps children grow into thoughtful, respectful, and culturally aware individuals who appreciate the diverse beliefs and values of our wider community.
